Dragons

Dragons are from a separate planet/realm called Naz which rotates in a binary fashion with Wyl. The flora and fona is essentially the same and the wildlife even shares in a lot of the same kinds of animals.

Society

Dragons are completely sentient and are an alpha male minded kind. However their upper leadership is council based. Circles of Dragons will meet in grand halls they have built for when major decisions are required to be made. Contrary to popular belief, the Dragon realm, Naz is actually very similar to Wyl with both plants, trees, forests, water, and indigenous life. They do however, have many more plots of constantly active volcanic biomes. Dragon Counsels are generally made up of one of each breed and one Grand will represent them as their head when meeting with other circles.

Dragon families typically keep to their own unless disputes over territory arise at which time the alpha males of each family will battle one another. The Alpha to fall loses the claim as well as his mates and is only allowed to take his hatchlings to find another location to raise them on his own. However, these disputes are not constant occurrences.

Hatchlings will live to about a hundred or so years before entering adolescence, after which they are “rebellious teenagers” until they reach a little over a thousand years old. The actual life expectancy of a Dragon can range anywhere between ten to fifteen thousand years but mainly due to being killed. Those lucky ones who do not die in a fight or battle will live to an unknown amount of time longer.

During the Adolescent age, Dragons are known to go completely rogue and hop into Wyl on a regular basis. Very few older Dragons are unwise enough to do so after the battles of Uhnsogg’s war to conquer Wyl. But the younger dragons who do come to Wyl either conquer a small plot of land and rule over the villages within their reach until slain or taken back to Naz by the “Rifgahl”, a formation of Dragons organized by their primary circles to police Dragons who come into Wyl in an attempt to conquer it by either killing or capturing them to bring them back to their Realm. Those who are brought back alive are imprisoned or forced into hard labor until they reach a certain age, thereafter being released again. The corpses of those who do not return to Naz alive are given to their families to undergo a ceremonial burning sacred to their kin.

Once a Dragon comes to adulthood, they enter into certain levels of societal order and authority. Older Dragons are considered, by other Dragons who come of age, to be the wisest and highest authority of leadership.

Females are kept in the nest, they have no political power and are weaker physically. Though well taken care of by their male counterparts, they never leave Naz or even the borders of their mate’s land and territory. They are extremely gentle to their young who go to their fathers after a few years for flight lessons and basic control over their magical connections which, if left unchecked or untrained can be rather unstable.

Biology

Dragons are born the size of a direwolf as hatchlings and grow to stand as tall if not taller than a castle wall. Some grow larger or smaller than the average based on their lineage. Not all dragons have scales and claws, some have feathers, fur, claws, paws, are horned or no. The variation of dragons range to three primarily known types with an unknown amount of lesser known subspecies.

Armakov dragons

Covered in fur with paw feet, tufts of fur like a forward or backward facing crest on their head sometimes with horns sometimes without. Armakov dragons are very similar to a direwolf like shape and come in a variety of natural brown, tan, white, gray, and black color. These are usually respected as the superior kind of dragon. Armakov dragons have rather square large snouts with a predominant brow bone giving them very wolf like facial features in the face and eyes but with a wider, more square nose and chin.

Crested dragons

Feathers running down their spine with a tuft at the end of their tail. Their eyes are mostly front facing and their nose narrows to about half their face width at their rounded nose. They have relatively long slender forms, builds that are great for agility and tight turning flight. They have semi webbed claws with curved talons. They come in very blue and grayscale range of colors. Their entire body is covered in smaller feathers usually of a solid color with the larger feathers being varying colors and designs on their head, spine, tail, elbows, and hips.

Zykel dragons

More scale and horn, these dragons are more aggressive in attitude than the other two. Smaller eyes and square jaw mouth and nose, these creatures are bulky and muscular. Typically colored with red, green, gray, white or black scales, often with many small horn like scales along the ridges of their jaw line, brow, and larger main horns from the top of their head. Their elbows, hips and spine often have spiked scales protruding from them as well for added armor and dealing more damaging when fighting other creatures. Zykel dragons can spit fire with a fueled gland in their tongue and an igniter tooth. Oddly enough, the Armakov and Crested dragons do not share in this ability.

Abilities

All dragons are magically attuned in a rather rounded sense. They speak fluently in their tongue commanding the flow of the Wylstream and other magics, making them one of the most difficult beings to stand against. All dragons can fly and glide so long as they have not lost their wings to battle. Due to their size, dragons are incredibly strong and can eat a great deal, but are also capable of fasting from any food for a long time. Sometimes up to a few years depending on the conditions
